Stevia is a delicate perennial plant native to Brazil and Paraguay where humid, wet environments are prominent. Additionally, Stevia is widely grown and is popular in India as a replacement for sugar in a healthy way. The sweetener agent is extracted from its leaves. The plants are used for the ornamental purposes as well. However, they are mostly known as a low-calorie sugar replacement. The leaves of Stevia have 40 times more sweetness than sugar at a low-calorie rate. Being a nearly 0 calorie replacement of Sugar, the plant has good durability as well.
Planting and care
- Soil: Stevia prefers sandy-loamy soil with good drainage ability to thrive well.
- Sunlight: They grow well in full sun or part shade.
- Temperature: The plant prefers a pleasant temperature and survives at a minimum of 25 C. June to frost is the ideal time when these blooms.
- Water: Keeping the soil moderately moist is a good idea to keep them thriving well.
